RWE Renewables Asset Quality Management Team in Swindon is looking for an experienced Quality Manager. The successful candidate will begin their career in Sofia Offshore Wind Farm, progressing with the project from the (late) development phase to handover to Operation & Maintenance.
This role requires an individual with significant experience of delivery of major infrastructure projects and at least one major project in a leading role.
Definition of the project-related quality strategy in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 and 10006:2017
Setting up and implementation of complex concepts, processes and methods for quality planning, assurance and control for Offshore Projects from concept to handover to end client.
Planning and managing comprehensive quality assurance and control activities for the assigned project(s), including coordination and training of 4-5 Quality Engineers and up to 18 inspectors
Manage contractors performance including, quality reporting, escalating and dispute resolution for Quality to all stakeholders Senior Management
Ensuring all measures are implemented to maintain an auditable trail for sub-contracted works and services
Assessing non-conformities, deviations, clarifying causes and follow up with suppliers
Manage and control a quality budget of approx. £7M
Manage Framework contract and Service Level Agreements
Putting Quality Engineers and Inspectors to work
A successfully completed university degree in engineering (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or in a comparable field) and qualifications as a Lead Quality Auditor and Quality Manager or comparable, obtained by a professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Quality (CQI)
Level 5 on NQF Management Qualification
Practical experience from the construction and/or manufacturing industry, preferably in the fields of HV/LV, welding/fabrication and/or coating and knowledge of Installation Techniques and methodologies
Extensive experience in managing teams and setting up and maintaining resource plans and budgets
Skills and experience in writing specification and negotiating them with major contractors and experience in assessing, managing and where necessary improving supplier performance.
Problem solving work management skills
Knowledge of the offshore wind industry and its norms and standards and you will be able to use root cause analysis and auditing techniques to identify and remedy issues such as serial defects. Significant knowledge of the offshore supply chain would be advantageous.
Knowledge of Improvement Techniques such as Lean and /or 6 Sigma
For the purposes of delivering the SCP, engage with the supply chain in the regions of Sofia’s cable route and substations, construction ports and operations & maintenance facility. This will include building strong relationships with: Local Enterprise Partnerships, Growth Hubs, supply chain cluster groups, such as Energi Coast and Humber Cluster, Chambers of Commerce, Business leaders, etc
Providing support with relationships with Education/Skills Business Partnerships.
Take responsibility for closing out Supply Chain Plan commitments and ensuring UK content opportunities.
Report progress to UK Government (BEIS / DIT) 2-3 times per year and compile evidence of positive supply chain, innovation and skills activities undertaken by the project as part of this.
Maintain the Sofia Supply Chain Plan Evidence Log on an ongoing basis.
Implementation of the SCP commitments, to include:
Arranging supplier events to facilitate cooperation across the supply chain – including meet-the-buyer, workshops, matchmaking etc
Engaging with Tier 1 (and Tier 2 as applicable) contractors to understand supplier opportunities – communicate these via the Sofia Supply Chain Portal and Growth Hub websites and to Registered Suppliers
Work with the Chamber of Commerce and Energi Coast and Humber cluster organisations to arrange regional supplier events and other topic-specific events as relevant e.g. innovation in liaison with wider Sofia team;
Arrange attendance at other key supply chain and industry events.
Communicate compliance with the Skills Strategy and meeting of skills related supply chain plan commitments.
Communicate achievement of innovation related commitments.
Work closely with Sofia’s Procurement Managers to ensure the Sofia Supply Chain Portal is kept up to date and Tier 1 / Tier 2 contractors use this for contract invitations, to highlight their events, promote opportunities.
Create supplier liaison groups as relevant in liaison with package managers.
Ensure suppliers are kept up to date with supply chain opportunities and case studies (working with communications on methodology for dissemination).
Arrange offshore-specific supplier events as required to seek to drive up UK content in the offshore contracts being awarded.
Continue to build internal project stakeholder awareness of Supply Chain Plan & Sector Deal requirements, liaising with / feeding into RWE centrally on these topics.
Support with the implementation of the skills commitments in relation to ensuring supplier support of activities including education days, masterclasses, work experience, involvement in careers days etc.
Work with the operations team (Sofia and wider RWE) to implement and support the Sofia Apprenticeship Programme.
Support with conducting a skills audit for the construction phase (liaison with suppliers to ensure their involvement) including a plan to plug any skills gaps.
Give presentations about the project to local community groups.
Manage the supply chain, skills and stakeholder budget.
Provide input to the project communications to ensure supply chain activities are profiled to a wider audience.
Advise and guide specific early stage development projects on their supply chain plan strategy.
Represent RWE on external supply chain related forums and meetings as appropriate.
Act as an active member of the Supply Chain and Skills Team including attending regular meetings with this team and wider stakeholders from across the business; including Procurement and HR.
Assist in the development and implementation of supply chain tools such as portals and shared databases.
Assist in development of a strategy for skills engagement and the provision of shared materials and approaches for projects.

As a Project Engineer you‘ll be responsible for coordinating multi-disciplined engineering work between assets and contract boundaries to ensure an integrated project. This includes the control and management of technical interfaces between both permanent and temporary works, and support to package managers in the management of information flow and contractual documentation across the project, as well as in wider engineering management. The role is a direct report to the Project Engineering Manager
