Walking football at Marske United to help overcome loneliness and boost mental health and fitness.
The organisation: Marske Sports and Recreation Partnership provides facilities in the interests of social welfare for sports and recreation leisure time with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the inhabitants of Marske by the Sea and surrounding areas
The initiative: Funding has been provided to the Marske Sports and Recreation Partnership to help combat loneliness and boost the fitness levels of local people who need some encouragement and purpose to become active again after the year of lockdowns and social isolation during 2020/21.
Weekly walking and talking football sessions will give people a regular activity to look forward to, getting them out of the house and onto the football pitch. The sessions are aimed at anyone who has been lonely and isolated during the past 12 months, or who has lost a loved one to Covid-19 and is adjusting to life alone.
These regular session will help to re-invigorate people both psychologically and physically and has the added bonus of giving participants the opportunity to make new friends and interact with new people.
