Providing funding to enable Forum volunteers to improve and maintain the local wildlife garden, one of the few local green spaces.
The organisation: Normanby Community Forum aims to be a safe and welcoming community group for the residents of Normanby and Teesville. Activities include hosting regular meetings for residents, Cleveland Police, elected ward members and Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council (RCBC) officers to discuss issues, concerns and initiative to improve the local community. The Forum also provides volunteers to maintain and look after one of few green spaces in Normanby - the Wildlife Garden.
The initiative: The funds provided by Sofia will enable volunteers to clear and dig out sections of the garden, plant new shrubs and flowers, and repaint and update areas of it to ensure visitors feel safe and welcome. The funding will also facilitate the purchase of gardening equipment and will enable the Forum to hire professional support for the work that is beyond the scope of the volunteers. This is primarily to hire a digger to undertake a major landscaping effort. Funding will create opportunities for volunteers to get involved, with the ambition being that once residents see progress in the garden, more volunteers will pitch in to convert the space into a welcoming and tranquil space for residents to go for their wellbeing and for all visitors to Greater Eston to enjoy.
