Helping local charity, MAIN's young people by engaging them in volunteer activities alongside local residents and those interested in volunteering.
The organisation: MAIN was established in 2002 to provide an after-school club in Middlesbrough for children with autism. The charity now provides services for children and adults with a range of disabilities throughout the whole of the North East. MAIN aims to help local people living disabilities by giving them the skills they need to live an independent life, while having fun and making friends. This in turn gives their parents and carers a break from their caring roles.
The initiative: Sofia's grant will help increase MAIN's volunteer bureau through a volunteer awareness programme. By promoting volunteer contribution alongside their backgrounds, skills and abilities the ambition is to increase volunteer participation from the wider community. It is also about providing an opportunity for some of the charity's young people to engage in volunteer activities, to increase their skills and confidence, and remove barriers. The vision is to create an environment where everyone is equal and part of something they can be proud of.
