Delivered as four trilogies, the series looks first at the socioeconomic benefits that Sofia has brought to regional communities. Representatives of the Port of Tyne, Van Oord, NOF and the Sofia project explain how the work carried out by the supply chain for Sofia has generated jobs and investment along the east coast of England.
Our second trilogy demonstrates the wide range of careers available in the offshore industry. In order to reach UK Government targets for offshore wind capacity, the industry is now tasked with generating tens of thousands more jobs. We show how RWE supports pre-apprenticeship qualifications training at the Energy Central Learning Hub in Blyth, and go behind the scenes of our own apprenticeship scheme at the RWE Grimsby Hub. In episode 6 we hear about the wide variety of careers in offshore wind from the workers themselves, who deliver project management, legal counsel, stakeholder engagement, medical support and many more, all of whom are vital to the design, construction and operation of a wind farm.
The third trilogy focuses upon the work of the Sofia education outreach programme, recently nominated for a Global Offshore Wind Award, has engaged over 12,000 learners in the north east over the last several years. The Sofia STEM team deliver direct engagement at every level of the education system. The education trilogy looks at our work in primary schools, universities and our teacher training programme, Champions for Wind.
Through the Sofia community benefits fund, and additional direct sponsorship, the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm given financial support to a range of groups and organisations along the east coast of England. The final set of films showcase how we have worked with the community to deliver environmental sustainability, improve social mobility and encourage healthy lifestyles..
