Aerial and subsea surveys on Dogger Bank
Sofia continues to prepare for construction with multiple surveys starting in April 2021.
As Sofia progresses at pace now the project has achieved a positive financial investment decision, further offshore surveys will be carried out as the team continue to plan for the construction works, set to start offshore in 2023.
The month of April sees multiple contractors undertaking work on the Dogger Bank array site, 195 kilometres off the North East coast.
Aquatic and environmental consultancy APEM will carry out aerial ornithology surveys to monitor bird activity in the area while Ocean Ecology will use remotely-operated underwater vehicles (ROV) to survey features that were identified during the geophysical surveys undertaken in 2020. The ROV surveys will be carried out from 66m-long specialist survey vessel Glomar Wave.
Aerial ornithology surveys will be carried out each month through to late summer whilst the ROV surveys are planned to be complete by the end of April.
The Seaeye Leopard ROV will be used to examine seabed features identified during the geophysical surveys in 2020
