Sofia Offshore Wind Farm recognised at this year’s Global Offshore Wind Awards
Wind farm received three nominations at the Global Offshore Wind Awards 2024 and came away with highly commended for the Offshore Wind Project of the Year award
The whole team are proud to have come away with highly commended for the Offshore Wind Project of the Year award, and to also have been shortlisted for the Offshore Wind Collaboration and the Environment and Sustainability award.
The ceremony took place on 15 October at Royal Lancaster in London. The awards shine a spotlight on the incredible achievements and contributions that have driven the wind energy industry forward over the past year.
The Offshore Wind Project of the Year commendation highlighted a track record of success, tackling sustainable development goals, and economic growth. The Sofia project has delivered excellence across the board and received a highly commended accolade from the judges.
The Environment and Sustainability category recognised an initiative’s overall impact on the environment, including assessing the potential effects on marine life, bird migration patterns, and habitats. Sofia was shortlisted due to recently forming and leading a group of developers to discuss noise mitigation for marine mammals and settled on using bubble curtains for the Sofia project.
The Offshore Wind Collaboration Award commended projects or initiatives that demonstrated effective collaboration and partnerships in offshore wind and delivered tangible benefits to local communities. Sofia Offshore Wind Farm worked jointly with Dogger Bank C Offshore Wind Farm. DBC’s onshore station is directly adjacent to Sofia, to mitigate disruption to the local residents, the government instructed both projects to have the same cable route for the underground cables running from the landfall to the stations.
While the team was of course disappointed to leave without scooping first place, we were delighted to receive
more nominations than any other project in the industry.
There was further cause for celebration that evening, with RWE’s Rampion Offshore Wind Farm winning the Offshore Wind Project of the Year – Operational award, and Declan Clarke from RWE’s Triton Knoll Wind Farm winning the Unsung Hero award.
