RWE announces new career opportunities for 2026 Apprenticeship Week

National Apprenticeship Week 2026 takes place from 9 to 15 February and celebrates businesses and apprentices across the UK. Across the week, RWE will publish a range of materials that shine a light on the positive impact apprenticeships have; not just on individuals but also on businesses and the economy.

This year’s theme, Skills for Life, highlights how apprenticeships provide young people with skills to progress into a successful career and fill critical skills gaps in the workforce. Investing in relevant skills and talent is a critical part of RWE’s long-term strategy to create the workforce needed in the future, and apprenticeships help contribute to RWE’s future vision.

In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week 2026, RWE, the UK’s leading power generator and a major force in the energy transition, is proud to launch its 2026 Apprenticeship Programme. This year’s initiative will offer 31 new apprenticeship opportunities across key parts of the business, reflecting RWE’s commitment to developing skilled talent and flexible career pathways in a changing energy landscape.

The RWE Apprenticeship Programme provides young people with skills for life and a career in renewable energy. The 3-year apprenticeship scheme enables the selected candidates to develop into technicians working on wind turbines. Completion of the apprenticeship will result in an NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Mechatronics Maintenance Technician).

Commenting on the importance of apprenticeships and the opportunity of a lengthy career in offshore wind energy, Les Atkinson, Sofia Offshore Site Manager at RWE, said: “Our education programmes are designed to encourage and support students into careers in offshore wind. There is vast infrastructure going into the North Sea, with hundreds of wind turbines which will all require servicing for 20 to 30 years. That amounts to a full generational career opportunity.”

Monroe Pearson, Wind Technician Apprentice at RWE, said: “The advice I would give to anyone thinking about applying for the industry is definitely do it, you won’t regret it. I’ve met lots of people, and I’ve learnt so much, not just about the engineering industry, but about myself. It’s allowed me to develop skills that I use outside of the workplace too.”

The closing date for RWE 2026 apprenticeship intake, including to the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm, is February 20. For more information, visit RWE's Apprenticeship hub

To mark National Apprenticeship Week, Sofia is pleased to publish the next episode of the project impact series, which highlights apprenticeship opportunities at RWE and the skills and qualifications gained for a successful career in offshore wind.
