Singleton Clamp & Partners (SCP) is a leading specialist transportation planning and highway infrastructure design consultancy, offering these services to the private and public sectors since 1991. Providing an integrated range of services to clients across the the nation, by size the company is a top 20 UK transport planning consultancy, but at around 40 staff remains a small/medium enterprise (SME).
Scope of work: SCP is supporting Sofia with traffic management and planning required for the project's onshore construction works in Teesside. This activity includes preparing specific reports and plans on traffic; transport; construction travel, and access, including abnormal vehicle movements - as well as contributing to wider project reports related to the discharge of Sofia's development consent order (DCO) requirements. SCP has also prepared planning applications related to site accesses within the Wilton Complex, the Lackenby substation connection and Network Rail crossing, and carried out other work including specialist calculations, routing advice and assessments.
Economic and employment impact: SCP values supporting individuals throughout their career and the senior team now has considerable experience with both onshore and offshore energy projects. Through its work with Sofia, SCP has provided valuable experience to its transport planning junior team members. To further strengthen its team, the company is now recruiting an apprentice, a position which has been widely advertised across the Yorkshire and the Tees Valley.
SCP's engagement with Redcar and Cleveland Council, and involvement in the area, has led to it offering support and guidance to Tees Valley Combined Authority on bus matters, including concessionary payment, thereby expanding its focus and adding value to the region.
Training and development: As an SME, SCP recognises that its people and reputation are key to long term success. It takes pride in supporting staff on a personal and professional basis, and invests in training both technical and broader.
SCP annually reviews the individual training needs of all staff and invests in accommodating those training needs. The scope of work on Sofia has provided valuable training opportunities, particularly for junior staff.
With its history of supporting apprentices, SCP currently employs four apprentices and is recruiting two further apprentices, one specifically facilitated by this commission with Sofia. The company's apprentices, current and future, will be supported by SCP throughout their training and professional qualifications as they enter and develop their careers.
