MacAlister Elliott & Partners Ltd

Negotiating and finalising cooperation agreements between Sofia and those in the commercial fishing sector potentially impacted by the project's offshore activity.

MacAlister Elliott & Partners Ltd is a UK-based fisheries and aquaculture consultancy, offering related consultancy and liaison services around the world with extensive experience in advising public and private sector clients on all elements of fisheries management and development. These include, but are not limited to industry liaison, compensation and co-existence specialisms for all marine and freshwater development and extraction activities relating to fisheries and aquaculture.

Scope of work: Fisheries compensation strategy specialist brought onboard to negotiate and agree cooperation agreements between Sofia and those in the commercial fishing sector potentially impacted by site investigations and ongoing works, until completion of construction.

Economic and employment impact: The work completed by MEP with the local fishing community will ensure that there is no negative financial impact on the potting sector, throughout the site investigations and ongoing development of Sofia. The cable route passes through one of the most productive lobster beds in the North Sea, which provides an important source of income to the local communities in Hartlepool, Redcar and Whitby - all of which have a long history of fishing that is important to preserve.

"MEP is delighted to be working on Sofia Offshore Wind Farm with RWE. The work has seen us engage with the fishing community throughout the project area, with the aim of minimising and agreeing disturbances in advance and avoiding unnecessary issues and delays. MEP hopes to continue to work with both RWE and the local fishermen as the project evolves in the future."
