B Marshall Marine Ltd
A family-owned, Teesside based vessel construction and operation firm serving the offshore, diving and renewable energy markets.
B Marshall Marine is a family-owned UK company based on the River Tees in the North East, specialising in self-building and operating multipurpose vessels to serve the offshore, diving and marine renewable energy markets.
Scope of work: B Marshall Marine Ltd was contracted to provide a vessel to support Sofia's offshore site investigation, comprising environmental sampling and camera work for benthic monitoring prior to construction. Utilising the company's crane and recently upgraded A-frame with built-in winch, the crew and team of environmental surveyors were able to successfully complete the scope safely and on time.
Economic and employment impact: This project enabled B Marshall Marine Ltd to meet its availability targets during a time of economic uncertainty. Despite the situation surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, the company was able to provide Sofia, by way of contractor Fugro, with an experienced five person crew, along with a clean sanitised Covid-free environment to complete the project on site at Dogger Bank in the central North Sea.
Training and development: B Marshall Marine Ltd aims to provide opportunities for those in the local area. Since September 2019, the company has worked in conjunction with the Worshipful Company Of Shipwrights and the Whitby & District Fishing Industry Training School to provide a placement on the apprenticeship scheme for workboat crew members.
"After developing our first multipurpose vessel specifically for the marine renewables sector we are very pleased to have been involved with the Sofia project. We take pride in developing our vessels, ensuring we can constantly evolve to keep up with the ever changing requirements. Projects like Sofia help us to re-invest, as we are doing again in conjunction with Marshall Jakeman Marine Ltd to design develop and build the new MJM Enterprise. A 26m survey vessel that will fulfil the requirements of future demanding projects like Sofia."
