Sofia team beach clean up days in Redcar
Sofia team building days with a difference, to make a difference, by collecting litter from the Marske-by-the-Sea and Redcar beaches while spending time outdoors together.
Regular team building days for the Sofia team take place near the project's Teesside landfall when groups, lead by senior management, spend time collecting litter from the beach.
The outdoor events give team members the chance to better know each other, particularly relevant when you have a disparate team and combined with the impacts of working from home during the pandemic, while also doing something positive for the wider community.
To date two events have been held led by Jonathan Grigg, Senior Project Manager, and Matthew Swanwick, Project Director, respectively, with around a dozen team members joining each time.
Armed with litter-pickers and refuse bags, they combed the beach collecting plastic waste and other rubbish that could otherwise have ended up in the sea.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive in terms of the effect of being outdoors on individual health and wellbeing, as well as leaving the beach a bit cleaner than how they found it.
Further events are planned for the team, to give a little something back to the community where the onshore works are being carried out, but also to create team bonding opportunities and support wellbeing.
