Sofia delivers continuous professional development for primary teachers

Sofia's education team delivered a series of events to teachers on how they can use the online primary education resources within their own classrooms.

More than 40 teachers attend Sofia online sessions

Sofia's education team has held a series of teacher continuous professional development sessions to spread the word about the primary school teacher resources that are now available to download from the project website.

The suite of high-quality teaching materials for primary-age children was created by Spark Tees Valley as part of an initiative by multi-school academy trust Tees Valley Education to bring renewables to life via geography, science and other subjects.

The online assets created can be accessed here, and include videos presented by a local pupil, interactive maps and planning tools.

A total of more than 40 teachers from 27 schools from across Teesside and beyond have attended the online sessions to find out how the resources can be used across different subject areas within the existing curriculum.

Feedback from the sessions was encouragingly positive with comments including:

  • I feel the resources will be great for our Key Stage 2 children to use during the upcoming Science Week.
  • Children will love exploring the Google Earth Voyager Map - I didn't even know what this was but it looks great when I have explored it!
  • The resources are very practical and can easily be used as stand alone sessions or have a great link to Science.
  • All seem well organised, thought out and easy to implement as part of a one off or integrating in to the curriculum.

Sofia worked closely with Tees Valley Combined Authority (Tees Valley Careers) and the North East LEP Skills team to ensure the events were promoted to teachers across the North East. Future events may be considered depending on demand.
