Powering Potential: Sofia delivers workshop for local college students in collaboration with Talent Foundry

The Sofia team has again partnered with the Talent Foundry to deliver an event for college students in the Tees Valley area.

Held at the Teesworks Skills Academy and funded by Dell Technologies, Powering Potential is a four-part programme which offers young people the opportunity for tailored mentoring, direct from industry professionals.

35 computing students from colleges in Hartlepool, Darlington and Middlesbrough are enrolled in this year’s programme, which aims to raise aspirations and build core skills. It also informs students about the range of employment opportunities available to them across the Teesside area, while introducing them to people who work for these companies in relevant jobs.

The Sofia team delivered its popular ‘Supergrid’ event to students at Teesworks on Tuesday 30th January 2024. Supergrid challenges students to build their own wind turbine towers, with data gathered in real time as teams compete with one another to produce energy at the lowest possible price, while still breaking even.

Students enjoyed engaging with the activity, with presentations from the Sofia team on the project, RWE and the skills gap.

Our education programme is aimed at providing local students with opportunities to understand the wide range of exciting career choices that the offshore wind industry has to offer.

Sofia staff members regularly volunteer to support initiatives like this, facilitating learning experiences for pupils and students across the region’s schools, colleges and universities.

If you represent a school or college within the Tees Valley Combined Authority Area and have an upcoming event that you would like member(s) of the Sofia team to attend, then please email comms_sofia@rwe.com to make a request.
