RWE Scholarship Awarded to Local Student
The winning applicant for the 2024 RWE Sofia Offshore Wind Farm scholarship has been selected.
As part of our Memorandum of Understanding with Teesside, the Sofia project recently announced it had established the scholarship for students enrolled in the 2023/24 academic year. Students were required to be on one of two courses, either the MSc Sustainable Energy and Clean Technology, the MSc Electrical Power and Energy Systems.
The scholarship exists to celebrate the growth of this dynamic industry and to support the next generation of skills in renewables.
We are delighted to announce that Dan Kidd has been selected as the recipient of this year's scholarship. After completing both his apprenticeship and Bachelors degree at Teesside University, Dan is currently a part-time student on the Sustainable Energy and Clean Technology Masters course. Dan grew up in Middlesbrough, works at PD Ports and plays rugby for Stockton RFC.
Accepting the award from Sofia Consents Manager, Elsa Lamb, Dan said: “The support from the RWE scholarship allows me to fully focus on my studies. This demanding course challenges me to push my limits, and I'm determined to make the most of every opportunity it presents.”
The scholarship includes £5000 to help with course fees. Membership to the Institute of Engineering & Technology will be offered alongside this to support his professional development.
RWE is currently developing a significant offshore wind estate in UK waters. These projects will support the transition away from fossil fuels and towards renewable energy. RWE is making a long-term commitment to both the country and the region. The Sofia project is delivering upon that commitment by providing skills-based education to local students, to create the workforce needed in the future.
We believe in Dan, congratulate him and look forward to seeing him fulfil his potential.
