Sofia team on hand at Oceans for Opportunity 2022
For the second year running the Sofia team has been at Newcastle University talking to students about careers in offshore wind.
Students from a cross-section of undergraduate and masters degree programmes attended the 2022 Oceans for Opportunity careers event at Newcastle University in late October 2022.
Sofia team members were on-hand in the Hadrian Building to offer advice and information about pathways into the offshore wind sector and provided details about the annual RWE graduate programme which was open for applications.
With representatives covering engineering, offshore consenting, supply chain and project management, the Sofia team was able to give the student visitors an insight into their own journeys into the sector: their studies, career route and what their roles entail. They also had the chance to 'visit a wind farm' with Sofia;s virtual reality headsets.
As well as Sofia, the event played host to stands from numerous other organisations and companies active in the marine environment including vessel providers, marine engineering firms and technical suppliers.
Newcastle University's student engagement facilitator Lucie Oxley said that the event was invaluably helpful for students to understand the type of companies and jobs that will be available to them after graduation.
"This will help them to start formulating the path they will take for their future and I think some eyes were really opened during the event to the types of opportunities that are out there."
This was the second time a team from Sofia had attended and it is expected they will be back again next year, hoping to attract new entrants into the rapidly growing industry,
