Taking part in Newcastle University's ACCESS 2022
Sofia's cable expert Stuart Haigh spent an afternoon with the university's civil engineering students to help guide them on their future career paths.
Sofia's cable installation manager, Stuart Haigh joined others from engineering-focussed organisations at Newcastle University's ACCESS 2022 careers event to give students a new understanding of potential future job pathways.
More than 50 civil engineering students talked to Stuart over the course of the afternoon at the event, which aimed to help them start to formulate the path they would like to follow post-university.
Organised by student engagement facilitator Lucie Oxley, she said: "This event was invaluably helpful for our students to understand the type of companies and jobs there are out in the civil engineering industry".
"We have had lots of positive comments from our students and that couldn’t have been possible without support from the companies taking part."
Stuart said that he was one of the last one to leave as the students were really keen to engage and learn more about the renewables sector, in particular about opportunities in offshore wind.
"It was rewarding to open the students' eyes not only to a career in offshore wind, which many had never considered before, but also to RWE as one of the world's largest renewables companies. I was glad I could impart my experience and enthusiasm and hopefully was able to provide motivation for students, particularly getting them to think about the possibility of a future in our growing sector."
