Markse on a Mission
Sofia’s grant will support the group’s expansion of their Soup Social - Soulful Support initiative allowing them to introduce a mental health provision.
The organisation:
Marske on a Mission was set up during the Covid-19 pandemic to help reduce loneliness and isolation in the community. Based in Marske-by-the-Sea, near to the Sofia HVDC cable landfall area, its original aim was to bring individuals in the community together to support each other and enrich lives, whilst tackling difficulties people faced during that period.
The group has since broadened its focus to support children’s and families’ mental health and wellbeing, address social needs and combat poverty.
Marske on a Mission has been working with people of all ages through their ‘Social Soup’ initiative for more than a year, supporting individuals from different walks of life.
The initiative:
With the help of a £8180 grant from Sofia, Marske on a Mission will be able to expand their ‘Social Soup’ project by introducing a mental health provision. The grant will help train volunteers to become mental health advocates to better support the diverse needs of group members.
With the correct training, the group can help with crisis management and provide a signposting service whereby people can access appropriate support.
The group aims to offer a private space where people can feel safe opening up and accessing this support. The initiative aims to reduce the impact on GP and emergency services, and help with the mental health crisis currently affecting the UK.
